INFO
★ born in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan, raised an only child by a French photographer and a Japanese soldier.
★ made a friend while still in Kanagawa (an atm unnamed NPC/substitute for his canon best friend), who he's still in contact with via the internet and care packages to this day.
★ spent the first six years of his life out of the States, growing up on military bases (father) in multiple countries, and on the road during school breaks/holidays (mother).
★ grew up with a love of baseball due to his father's status as a fan, and both nature and fashion because of his mother. was also raised on Japanese, French, and English, although his French can be a little stilted.

★ eventually, due to both of his parents' work, the Okumura family wound up stateside, though it was a little while until his father's retirement before they settled in a rural area outside of Recollé.
★ during those years, Koushuu had a coach that treated them well and encouraged them when he knew they were listening, but would disparage them when he thought he was alone. Koushuu overheard him talking trash about them one day, and shortly afterwards the man transferred to another team, abandoning them for a "better" crop. rather than succumb to this, a young Koushuu - who values loyalty and honesty - became completely embittered, and led the team to victory against their old coach's new team, completely destroying them.
★ that's how we have the salty, cranky, jaded Koushuu that exists now, having done a complete 180 from the happy little boy he used to be. this has not changed from canon.
★ HOWEVER, one good thing came out of his middle school years, and that was settling down outside of Recollé in seventh grade and meeting the Sawamura family, their new neighbors.
★ while he would never admit it to anyone, ever, Eijun ( [personal profile] tire ) became a very important person to him - as sort of cross-team rivals, as someone that he admired, and as someone he wanted to play with. nevermind that they butt heads back then, and still do now, but regardless.
★ even though he wasn't on their team, he came to look up to Sousuke Yamazaki ( [personal profile] flexer ) as well, with much less butting heads involved. he was a good senpai, a great catcher to admire, and it was upsetting when he was hurt and left the baseball scene.

★ with Eijun heading off to high school in Recollé proper, Koushuu found himself without his rival/sort-of-friend for much of the year. this caused him to realize that there'd been a shift in how he saw baseball as a whole, with this sudden void where the older boy had previously been, and he decided that he would have to follow him to the same school.
★ this became even more apparent after two things happened: Eijun's experience with the yips, and Koushuu going to one of his games.
★ learning that Eijun was in a rut via going through the yips, Koushuu called him to angrily (read as: worriedly) chew him out and tell him that something like the yips shouldn't stop someone like Eijun. it's the closest that he's ever really come to admitting outright how much Eijun means to him and how much he looks up to him.
★ the game in question came after this, as Koushuu snuck into one of his games as a freshman. it was one of Eijun's best at the time, as a pitcher, and was what really inspired Koushuu and made him realize just how exciting baseball was with this person.
★ after that, he made a point to work hard to make progress so that he could keep up with Eijun and meet him on equal footing when he hit high school.

★ going to Recollé High was particularly uneventful for him after being used to moving all over the place, so he settled in fairly easy as he moved there (and to the same building as Eijun) with his parents rotating who stayed with him for the first year.
★ said first year went relatively smoothly (as opposed to having to fight to get onto even second string at first in canon), and he worked his way up to the first string after spending time proving himself and practicing at school, the local ballparks, and the RRFC with and without Eijun.
★ he was more of a relief catcher than the starting catcher for his freshman year, but he still got to play with Eijun, so he figured they both could work their way up to the positions they wanted. even if they bickered about 10x more than they ever did as just neighbors.
★ outside of baseball, he settled into academics with the same aplomb he always has, being in a number of AP classes and taking French to hammer out the problems he has with it, as well as helping as a tutor somewhat reluctantly.

★ it was during a tournament in his sophomore year that he was given the #2, marking him as the primary catcher, which was when he and Eijun became a real battery.
★ at the rate he's going, he's slated to become the captain in his senior year, as he continues to grow and display the same leadership qualities he had in middle school on a higher scale. this on top of RU's interest in him and Eijun already, even with them being sophmore and junior, respectively, currently.

CHANGES
🐺 Due to not having Seto as his handler, and no AU replacement, Koushuu is... a little more "wild." This exhibits itself in the fact that he keeps befriending delinquents, and often engages in a lot more scrappy behavior with both them and others. His temper is mostly the same as canon, as described, but there's nothing and no one currently around to stop him when he gets going. So he's free to be spiteful, and aggressive, and is entirely likely to get into an actual fight as opposed to just getting up in someone's face and then walking away after he verbally hits them below the belt - not that he'll go out of his way to get into fights, considering his position on the baseball team would be at risk, but still.

🐺 Unlike in canon, Koushuu has already been given the chance to have fun while playing baseball. As this search, and his naturally competitive (and admittedly spiteful and aggressive) nature, was what was spurring him forward, his early canon arc was jumpstarted here. He's been able to enjoy his sport again alongside the pitcher that he wanted to form a battery with most. So while, as stated, his temper isn't that different, and he's still pretty grumpy, his loner attitude is a little more mellowed out as opposed to constantly wanting to keep his distance from people. He'll still be pretty partial to "his people" as opposed to strangers, but it'll be different from canon, where he even keeps his distance from his friends/teammates when they're all just hanging out outside of practice/games. His canon comparison of being a wolf is even more appropriate, here, with his pack of people.

🐺 Very little is shown of Koushuu's home life, but what little there is indicates a more modern lifestyle as opposed to a traditional Japanese one. But growing up the way he did in this setting, he has only a minor attachment to his Japanese heritage and has become fairly accustomed to constantly moving and adapting to new things. There's no guarantee that he'll be happy about it, but he's fairly flexible to sudden changes and new situations, even moreso than his calculative and observant gameplay in canon indicates him to be. This doesn't mean that he has any form of wanderlust, however - it's more the opposite. He wants more of a sense of permanence, and it ties in well with his goals, because he has them set in stone.

ABILITIES
Koushuu, being a slice of life sports anime character, has no abilities to speak of that are out of the norm. He's described, as a catcher, as someone with a very clean, soft style, allowing him to catch practically anything with very little difficulty even as a first year. And contrary to his abrasive personality, he's a gentle guide for pitchers, leading them and adapting to them and their varying play styles.

This is because he was taught a thinking-oriented play style, based on observation and elimination, allowing him to find the choices with the least amount of risk. Whether this is in relation to his teammates or his opponents doesn't matter, as he does it with both, and uses a very tactical, logical, and intelligent mind to lead them. He's not in the 1-A class for nothing - he's smart as hell, and will pick apart a game with lethal precision.

Though he wasn't selected for first string right away, like the natural-born prodigy catcher Yui, another first year, numerous people make observations about his strengths and skills. Yui himself feels that Koushuu is a threat to his position on first string, when their coach is still deciding on the permanent roster, and the assistant coach Ochiai comments that he has the makings of being a great captain and the best catcher in Japan - a title arguably held by the senpai that Koushuu wants to best, Miyuki. He's about as dangerous as Miyuki when it comes to pickoffs, and has a good, strong shoulder that allows him to throw far and hard when necessary.
